Veldon, GTS Partner for Mozambique Coal Project Feasibility Study

Veldon Group Pty Ltd (Veldon) has taken a significant stride in the global mining sector by partnering with GMMCO Technology Services Limited (GTS) to deliver a multi-million-dollar bankable feasibility study for the Minas de Revuboè (MdR) coking coal project in Mozambique. The partnership, officially announced at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) 2025 in Sydney, underscores the strength and innovation of Queensland’s mining, technology, and services sector. This collaboration is poised to shape the future of project delivery in the mining industry, particularly in complex, large-scale ventures.

The MdR project, with its vast coal reserves exceeding 800 million tonnes, presents a unique set of challenges, including remote location and infrastructure constraints. However, Veldon and GTS are confident in their combined expertise to navigate these hurdles. The feasibility study, set to be completed within a tight 7-month timeframe, is a testament to the companies’ technical capabilities and collaborative practices. This project marks the first joint venture between Veldon and GTS, setting a precedent for future collaborations.

Mr. Stephen Downs, Chairman & Director of Veldon, emphasized the strategic significance of the project, stating, “The Minas de Revuboè feasibility study will be delivered in a short 7-month timeframe and is a strategically significant project for MdR. Thanks to our demonstrated technical capability, collaborative practices and prior experience in Mozambique, we feel confident that the unique feasibility study delivery model we have designed with GTS can overcome the project’s challenges and be delivered on schedule.”

The partnership between Veldon and GTS is built on a distinctive contracting model developed over the past year. This model ensures that the companies can tackle projects of any scale with a collaborative and hands-on approach. Mr. Mark Gregory, CEO & Director of Veldon, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “To be given the opportunity to deliver this large-scale project is an honour and we look forward to partnering on many more projects of this scale with GTS in the future.”

Mr. Manvender Bharti, Chief Operating Officer of GTS, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the shared values of delivering full-cycle solutions to complex projects. “Veldon’s dedication to delivering full-cycle solutions to complex projects is a value that we share at GTS, and we look forward to working with them to offer a powerful platform to deliver integrated technical, engineering, and project delivery services worldwide.”

The MdR project is already 30% complete, with the full study expected to be delivered by February 2026. This partnership not only strengthens Veldon’s position as a global consulting firm but also enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive services, further bolstered by GTS’s international capacity and expertise.

Over the past two years, Veldon has established a strong track record, securing 30 projects with 21 clients across various sectors, including mining, critical minerals, coal, renewable energy, power stations, and urban infrastructure. The official signing ceremony was witnessed by Queensland Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, the Hon. Ros Bates, who acknowledged the significance of such partnerships in driving innovation, productivity, and sustainability in the mining industry.

Following the IMARC Conference, Veldon and GTS will reconvene in India at the IME Conference for the official signing of the MdR Project and a formal introduction of their Global Partnership to the international mining community. This collaboration is expected to set a new standard for project delivery in the mining sector, particularly in overcoming complex logistical and technical challenges.

The award of the MdR feasibility study, following a highly competitive tender process, cements Veldon’s position as a global consulting firm capable of delivering a unique and comprehensive suite of services. This partnership is a significant step forward in the mining industry, demonstrating the potential for innovative collaborations to drive progress and overcome challenges in large-scale mining projects.
