DTC Celebrates 10 Years of Filtration Innovation in Mining

The Lappeenranta Dewatering Technology Center (DTC), a cornerstone in the mining and processing industries’ filtration and separation solutions, marks a decade of innovation and growth. Since its inception in 2015, the center has evolved into a specialized hub, driving advancements in sustainable and efficient filtration practices. Its collaboration with Metso’s Filtration Technology Center, both situated in Lappeenranta, has been instrumental in this progress.

The DTC’s role extends beyond research and development. It actively supports customers through pilot testing and process optimization, contributing to over 90% of Metso’s filters being part of the Metso Plus offering. This offering is notable for its energy, emissions, and water efficiency, reflecting the center’s commitment to sustainability. “We’re proud to celebrate this milestone and grateful for our customers’ trust and our team’s commitment to innovation and exceptional customer service,” says Leena Tanttu, director, Process and Testing of Filters at Metso. “Our Dewatering Technology Center offers comprehensive testing capabilities from bench scale to pilot, supporting efficient and sustainable flowsheet development, reflecting Metso’s long-term dedication to filtration technology.”

The DTC’s impact is not confined to Finland. Earlier this year, Metso expanded its filtration manufacturing footprint with the opening of a new Dewatering Development Hub in Irapuato, Mexico. This hub, equipped with extensive product development capabilities, produces polymer filter plates for sub-assemblies and new filtration equipment. The expansion underscores Metso’s global commitment to filtration technology, complementing its existing facilities in India and China.

Metso’s filtration portfolio, consisting of 16 filter types and comprehensive services, caters to various mining and industrial applications. With over 5,000 installations globally, the company’s reach is extensive. The DTC’s decade-long journey has not only advanced filtration technology but also set a benchmark for sustainable practices in the industry.

The DTC’s work challenges the norm of resource-intensive processes, sparking a debate on the potential of sustainable filtration solutions. Its growth and the recent expansion in Mexico signal a shift towards more efficient and eco-friendly practices in the mining and processing industries. The center’s role in advancing filtration technology could shape the sector’s future, driving a trend towards sustainability and innovation. As the DTC continues to evolve, its impact on the industry is expected to grow, setting new standards for filtration and separation solutions.
