CCTEG’s Transparent Mine Vision: Revolutionizing Intelligent Coal Mining

In the rapidly evolving landscape of intelligent coal mining, a groundbreaking study published in *Meitan xuebao* (translated as *Coal Science and Technology*) is set to redefine how we approach geological transparency and data integration. Led by Zaibin Liu from the CCTEG Xi’an Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., this research delves into the construction and application of transparent mines, a concept that promises to revolutionize the energy sector.

The study addresses the urgent need for transparent mines in intelligent coal operations, emphasizing the importance of a scientifically constructed technology system. Liu and his team explain the connotation and technical characteristics of transparent mines, geological security, and transparent geology, highlighting the interdependent relationship between these elements. “The integration of transparent mines and transparent geology is not just beneficial; it’s essential for the future of intelligent mining,” Liu asserts.

At the heart of this research is the V model idea from innovative application systems engineering theory. This model focuses on analyzing geological data requirements, evaluating geological models, and verifying application scenarios. The team proposes a multi-level, interconnected, and coupled transparent mine system engineering technology architecture, driven by data, model expression, and scenario application.

Four key technologies were identified to implement this architecture:

1. **Multi-source tunnel hole detection technology system**: This system includes real-time seismic detection during excavation and mining, as well as comprehensive detection of directional long boreholes. The working principles and data processing flows of these technologies were thoroughly studied to meet the demand for transparent detection of geological information.

2. **Multi-source heterogeneous data fusion**: The team developed a fusion processing method for mining data, including geophysical exploration, drilling, geology, and engineering. This method achieves the fusion processing of multi-source heterogeneous spatial geological data in mines, a significant leap forward in data integration.

3. **Dynamic geological model update for engineering applications**: This technology ensures that geological models are continuously updated to support engineering applications, providing real-time, accurate data for decision-making.

4. **Construction of practical scenarios for transparent mines**: The team developed a key technology system covering geological transparency of mining faces, hidden disasters, and advanced geological prediction and forecasting. This system achieves a deep integration of geological support and production business scenarios for transparent mines.

The practical application of these technologies was demonstrated through the engineering practice of constructing a three-level transparent geological guarantee system for different mining areas. This system quickly solves exploration and excavation collaborative platforms, intelligent planning and cutting during mining, and advanced three-dimensional prediction and forecasting.

The implications of this research are profound for the energy sector. By enhancing geological transparency and data integration, intelligent coal mines can operate more efficiently, safely, and sustainably. “This research is not just about improving existing technologies; it’s about setting a new standard for intelligent mining,” Liu states.

As the energy sector continues to evolve, the integration of transparent mines and transparent geology will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of coal mining. This research, published in *Meitan xuebao*, serves as a beacon, guiding the industry towards a more transparent, data-driven, and efficient future.

The study’s findings are poised to influence not only the coal mining industry but also other sectors that rely on geological data and intelligent systems. As we stand on the brink of a new era in mining technology, the work of Liu and his team offers a glimpse into the future, where transparency and data integration are the cornerstones of intelligent operations.
