EACON Pioneers Autonomous Mining at Shuichang Iron Ore Mine

EACON Mining Technology has just pulled off a monumental feat, successfully completing its mining autonomy project at the Shuichang iron ore mine in northern China. This isn’t just a victory lap for EACON; it’s a strategic pivot, a testament to their evolving business model. They’ve shifted from being the hands-on contractor to the brains behind the operation, empowering clients or partner contractors to take the wheel. This is a bold move, one that could reshape the dynamics of the mining industry.

The Shuichang iron ore mine, with its 11.46 Mt/y aggregate capacity and 2.4 Mt of iron ore concentrate powder, was no walk in the park. It threw a unique set of challenges at EACON, but the company tackled them head-on. They deployed their EACON ORCASTRA® technology, enabling autonomous haul trucks to navigate complex intersections, traffic flow, and navigation rules with ease. These trucks even responded to the traffic light status at the crusher, showcasing a level of sophistication that’s hard to ignore.

But EACON didn’t stop at haul trucks. They collaborated with Yutong to design ten EY70E autonomous battery vehicles for aggregate movement. This isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about reliability and sustainability. The Shuichang project has been a whirlwind of milestones. By November 2024, commissioning was complete, and EACON began training the mine controller and on-site team. Just two months later, in January 2025, the project was handed over to the client. EACON’s aftersales team will now provide on-site support for the next three years, ensuring seamless operations and continuous improvement.

This project isn’t just a feather in EACON’s cap; it’s a strong foundation for a long-term partnership with the Shougang Group. Yao Yongpu, Chairperson of the Union of Shougang Mining Corporation, couldn’t be more pleased. “The launch of autonomous haulage operations enables us to capitalise on new technological advancements and industrial changes, while boosting productivity at the grassroots level, tailored to local conditions,” he said. This isn’t just about technology; it’s about empowering local operations and tailoring solutions to specific needs.

The completion of the Shuichang project underscores EACON’s commitment to driving innovation, safety, and sustainability in global mining operations. This isn’t just a project; it’s a statement. It’s a declaration that EACON is here to stay, and it’s here to lead. The mining industry is watching, and it’s taking notes. This project could spark a wave of similar initiatives, pushing the industry towards greater autonomy, efficiency, and sustainability. It’s a game-changer, and EACON is the one holding the controller.
